Edgewood Preserve Night at Trax Restaurant & Cafe

Wednesday night, April 6th is Edgewood Preserve Night as Trax Restaurant and Cafe in Ambler.

Trax Restaurant and Café is proud to support an effort to preserve a wooded hillside lot along Rose Valley Creek, known as the Edgewood Preserve. Information about the Preserve will be available at the restaurant, and a portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated toward purchasing and restoring this environmentally sensitive area.

Edgewood Preserve is land identified in Ambler’s 2006 Open Space Plan as “a vulnerable natural resource with the highest priority for procuring”. The intense level of development throughout the Wissahickon Watershed has altered the hydrology and impacted the health of the Wissahickon Creek and it’s many tributaries.

The Ambler Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) supports Ambler and its property owners to adopt strategies to improve impaired creeks, such as preserving open space, protecting woodlands, wetlands, and steep slopes, and maintaining healthy riparian buffers. “Although the smallest of the 16 communities that make up the Wissahickon watershed, Ambler can make a difference in our environment,” said Mary-Margaret Monser of the Ambler EAC.

“I love the treescape scenery and wild life habitat of this wooded hillside,” said Susan Curry, associate member of the Ambler EAC. She continued: “Other reasons to save this parcel include prevention of soil erosion, and the natural infiltration of storm water through the wooded top soils of this area.”

When the full amount of $75,000 is raised, Ambler Borough will hold the deed, preserving it forever as passive open space. Currently, over $63,000 has been raised though events and focused asking. Raising the remainder of the money is where places like Trax come in.

Chef Steve Waxman, Head Chef and Owner of Trax, is proud to be able to help raise money for open space in Ambler. “We are happy to be working with Susan Curry and the Ambler EAC to help preserve open space in Ambler” he said. “What could be better than a delicious meal AND supporting a worthy cause – it’s a win-win for everyonel involved!”
