Debate Over When School Year Should Start is an Ongoing Topic in Wissahickon

The debate as to when the school year should start in Wissahickon ended with a 4-4 tie at this week’s School Board Meeting (one school board member was not in attendance).

The calendar year in question is over the 2019/2020  school year.  Historically in Wissahickon, school has started before Labor Day. Last year, a few school board members released a community survey which included parents, teachers and students and resulted in a majority wanting school to start after Labor Day.  We were told that many people were able to vote multiple times in this survey.

If school starts after Labor Day, the school year would end on June 18th, 2020 if no extra snow days are used.  School could possibly bleed into the week of June 22 if necessary.

The School Board will vote on this again at the February 4th School Board Meeting.
