Flourtown & Fort Washington FCs rescue heavily entrapped driver on Route 309

Crews from Flourtown Fire Company, Fort Washington Fire Company, and Harmonville Fire Company assisted this morning in the rescue of a heavily entrapped driver on Route 309.

From Fort Washington FC’s announcement:

On March 29, 2023 at 0353 hours, Stations 44 and 88 were dispatched to a vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer hanging over an overpass, on fire, with one person heavily entrapped. Turnpike personnel arrived and extinguished a small grass fire. CH44 arrived and confirmed that the tractor portion of the tandem tractor trailer had separated, gone over the overpass, and had landed on the shoulder of Route 309 northbound. CH44 added station 6 to assist. A heavy wrecker was used to secure the vehicle from sliding further down the hill. Paratech structs were used to brace the cab from rolling while crews worked to extricate. Crews worked for over 40 minutes to free the heavily entrapped driver.

Crews were able to successfully extricate driver within 40 minutes of arrival and turned them over to Plymouth Community Ambulance Association – Medic 308 and Community Ambulance Association, Ambler who treated the driver’s injuries.
