Former Ambler Borough Police Chief Responds to Consultant Contract Provision for New Chief

Under the sharing of our article on Ambler Then and Now, Ambler’s former police chief, Bill Foley commented on the now public provision with the new chief’s contract for a consultant/mentor.  Foley’s comment is below:

I find it amusing that this consultant panel recommended a consultant to be with, even though Chief Hoffman has been in transition for over a year. Chief Hoffman has run patrol scheduling, numerous events and spear headed efforts for 3 homicide investigations. He is familiar with budgeting and has already had his fair share of personnel issues. He has been apart of the new transition that montgomery county communications has evolved into and has basically been running the police department since I was able to put him into administration. This direction is yet another attempt to promote personal agendas. I’ve worked for Ambler Borough my whole life but because private maneuvering there has been an overt effort to put the Police Department down. Chief Hoffman did not face an extreme situation. When I took over as Chief, Chief Rocco Wack was very Ill and could not assist me due to same. I was able to seek out advice from my surrounding departments who helped me with any short coming I may have had. Traditionally the previous Chief was always the source of needed advice but this isn’t considered in this case although I live practically next door. This is the reason why I left under the circumstances that I did. Although it was not a secret that I was due to retire it was treated like it was a surprise that I was leaving. I did it in order to force Council into seeing that I already had a direction in place, a transition already started. It was obvious to me that certain members of Council were already keeping me out of the loop which was blatantly obvious by not inviting me to meetings that they were having in regards to finding my replacement. Yes i was told that it was an over sight, mistake, i think not. The same is going on to this day! The public came out in support of the Police Department when it became obvious that those personal agendas were present as they are now, and by the public getting to see a snippet of comments the truth is emerging. I have made myself available to Chief Hoffman as well as any of the members of the Department. I’ve retired, not passed away! Just one more added thought, Chief Kenny LGPD, Chief Benson UDPD, Chief Lawson WPD, Chief Ward Whitemarsh PD all were promoted to Chief without requiring a consultant to mirror them. Yet our small town of 6,500 residents will have to endure the expense.
