How Upper Dublin Township voted

Going into the 2020 general election, Upper Dublin Township had 21,154 registered voters. The election in the township saw 18,374 ballots cast resulting in a turnout of 86.86%. Turnout in 2016 was 82.59% and 80.19% in 2012.

Upper Dublin voters came out big for Democratic Party candidates on the November 3rd election. Democratic Party candidates won the majority of votes in every race on the ballot in the township.

However, there are some interesting things to point out. Joe Biden improved on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 result by 2,025 votes. Donald Trump improved on his vote total from 2016 by 334.

In the second biggest race on the ballot, that to represent the vast majority of Montgomery County in the US House of Representatives, Biden outperformed the Democratic Party candidate, while Trump underperformed against the Republican candidate.

Incumbent Madeleine Dean (D) garnered 633 fewer votes than Biden. First-time candidate Kathy Barnette outperformed Trump by 703 votes.

If you look at all the other races, Biden outperformed his fellow Democrats in all but one race (even when you combine the three state representative races). The exception is the state senate race where there wasn’t a Republican candidate. Trump underperformed against the other Republicans on the ballot, except in the case of the Attorney General race. Note that it’s impossible to compare Trump with the state representative races because one race did not have a Republican candidate).
