It’s National Donut Day on Friday and Alice Bakery is Celebrating with a New Twist on a Classic

June 1st is recognized as National Donut Day each year, and this Friday local bakeries and donut shops will likely be packed with people and to-go orders, especially because the overall meaning of this long standing holiday is to share a donut with someone special.

The first National Donut Day was celebrated in 1938 by The Salvation Army in Chicago.  According to the Salvation Army website,

Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
Today, we continue to celebrate their work by delivering donuts to those in need and to donut lovers across the country.

The Salvation Army staff and it’s volunteers spend the day delivering donuts, and hosting events from state to state.

In honor of National Donut Day in our town, Alice Bakery has recently created the “Doughsant”, their classic croissant dipped in a vanilla bean doughnut glaze.  This is a perfect week to try one, or order a bunch ahead.
