Karamoor Estates Receives Prestigious Awards at This Year’s New York International Wine Competition

Karamoor Estate Vineyards and Winery, located around the corner in Fort Washington, received three impressive awards at the 8th annual New York International Wine Competition that was held on May 6th in New York City.

The New York International Wine Competition ( NYIWC) showcases over 1400 wine submissions from over 24 countries.  The judging panel for this competition is conducted by panels of a minimum of four qualified trade buyers. The panels consist of a mix of restauranteurs, sommeliers, retail wine buyers, distributors and importers. By assembling each judging panel with a mixture from each discipline, many viewpoints can be considered when evaluating each wine.

Karamoor Estate Vineyards and Winery produces fine wines including: Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Meritage, Reserve Merlot, Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, and received the following awards at this year’s NYIWC:

  • PA Winery of the Year
  • Gold for their 2015 Cabernet Franc & Chardonnay
  • Bronze for their 2017 Rose

The New York International Wine Competition medals are awarded on a merit basis and by a majority vote. The award levels are Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The levels are structured as follows:

  • Double Gold: Phenomenal Product (Must Be Unanimous Decision by Panelists)
  • Gold: Buyers “Love” It
  • Silver: Buyers “Like” It
  • Bronze: Buyers would purchase it

According to the NYIWC website, “the judges are instructed to grant no awards or medals when, in their opinion, the wines are not ones they would import, distribute, buy or sell in their businesses based on product and price category.”
