On December 10th, Lower Gwynedd Township issued a notice that clarified invoicing from Republic Services. Residents had received an additional invoice on top of the regular quarterly one.

The notice explains that the rate for trash collection is contracted to increase each year and the amount is correct, but the township isn’t involved in the invoicing process and is not sure why Republic Services decided to not add the increase to the regular invoice.

Below is the text of the notice.

It has been brought to our attention that residents are receiving an additional small invoice from Republic Services for charges not included on their normal quarterly bill. Please be aware that the contract the Township has with Republic Services for trash collection does include a minimal rate increase each year of the contract. While we are not involved with the internal billing process of Republic Services and are unsure why they’ve billed for the increase in this way, the increase in the rate is part of the contract. This information was provided when the contract was awarded and the incremental increases have been reflected on the Township website since the contract went into effect on November 1st, 2020. The information states: The collection rate is $84.57 per quarter for year one, $87.54 per quarter for year two, and $90.60 per quarter for year three. Collection days will remain Mondays and Thursdays. Recycling will be once per week.
