Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame presents $2,000 Scholarship

Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame Board of Directors are pleased to award a $2,000 scholarship to Montgomery County Community College student Avian Garcia to help him achieve his educational goals.

Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame President Dale Hood is proud of the partnership between the Hall of Fame and MCCC and wants to help students be successful.

“We are extremely grateful that we have found a permanent home at Montgomery County Community College,” said Coaches Hall President Dale Hood. “The plaques of these great coaches are displayed in a place where they can be seen by thousands of people each year. Now we want to give back by helping deserving students at the college get an education that will serve them throughout their lives.”

MCCC has been the home for the Hall of Fame since fall 2018. The Hall of Fame consists of rows of polished plaques featuring the images of 74 coaches together with brief summaries of their accomplishments. The tribute is on display for the community in the MCCC’s Health Sciences Center Atrium on its Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.

Garcia is grateful to Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame for awarding him this scholarship that allows him to continue focusing on his education.

“I really appreciate being chosen for this scholarship,” Garcia said. “I am thankful for the opportunities to explore different subjects at MCCC and learn what I like. As somebody who was not certain what subject to major in or which career to pursue, choosing a community college really feels like the smartest option for me.”

Garcia of Hatfield, a Liberal Studies major, plans to graduate in summer 2020 and continue his education at Temple University.

Growing up, Garcia was not sure if he would go to college. A close family member convinced him to pursue a higher education and in the fall of 2018, he started classes at MCCC. As a Liberal Studies major, Garcia was able to discover new interests through the different classes he took. After taking an Introduction to Theater class, he is considering a path in the film industry when he begins at Temple.
