The Montgomery County Office of Public Health is now recommending that masks be worn indoors due to the county’s move into the high level of community transmission for COVID-19. In addition, the county reports that this week the hospital admissions rate rose from 7.7 to 10.4 per 100,000.

At least two school districts in the county, Cheltenham and Lower Merion, went back to requiring masks as of today (May 20). Both cited the county’s longstanding recommendation regarding masking when the transmission rate falls within the high level.

As of now, the Wissahickon and Upper Dublin school district has not made any announcement regarding a return to masking. You can view the county’s guidance for schools here.

All individuals are recommended to wear a well-fitting mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status. If you or a loved one are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease you should also consider avoiding crowded areas and talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to take other precautions (e.g. testing).
