Morning diesel fuel spill in Ambler, no lasting environmental impacts expected

Upper Dublin Township has alerted the public to a morning accident that led to 50-100 gallons of diesel entering a storm drain.

According to the notice, a tractor-trailer went off-road at the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Loch Alsh Avenue in Ambler, which punctured its fuel tank. Some of the fuel entered a nearby storm sewer maintained by PennDOT.

The notice continues:

Crews from DEP, PennDOT, and emergency responders were quickly on the scene. Cleanup operations began immediately and were handled efficiently by expert teams. Loch Alsh Avenue was temporarily closed between Bethlehem Pike and Douglass Street to allow for safe and effective cleanup. The road has since been reopened.

Environmental experts on-site have confirmed that while any fuel spill is a serious matter, the amount involved was manageable and no lasting environmental impacts are expected. There is no concern for local water systems, and residents do not need to take any action.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. The Township will continue to monitor the area in partnership with the appropriate agencies.
