Nicole Cadwalader Deemed Competent to Face Trial for First and Third Degree Murder of Her Grandmother

Nicole Cadwalader , 30, of the 100 block of Chestnut Street, Ambler, who was arrested for First-Degree Murder and related charges in the death of her grandmother, Sharon Burke, 68, on June 4, 2018 in the Ambler residence they shared, has been determined to be competent to continue to trial.

As a result of a competency review hearing on Friday, Montgomery County Judge Thomas C. Branca deemed Cadwalader competent for trial and faces charges of first- and third-degree murder, possessing an instrument of crime and resisting arrest. Cadwalader was ordered to appear for her preliminary trial in front of District Court Judge Patricia Zaffarano on May 23rd.

Also on Friday, Judge Branca ordered that Cadwalader be remanded to the county jail in Lower Providence while awaiting court action.

Since the time of her arrest in 2018, Cadwalader has been undergoing numerous mental health evaluations while at the Norristown State Hospital under the recommendation of her lawyers.
