Nearly two months after a protest regarding nurses’ contracts at Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital in Fort Washington, 80 nurses voted to ratify a three-year contract on May 8, according to a statement from the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals.
“Brooke Glen nurses’ mission is to care for some of society’s most vulnerable – those who suffer from trauma, mental health issues, and addiction,” PASNAP President Maureen May said in the statement. “This contract, with its emphasis on measures to improve retention of skilled nurses, acknowledges the importance of mental health care and the absolutely vital contributions of those who provide it.”
The 146-bed facility treats patients with several conditions, including anxiety, mood disorders, psychosis, “situational crises,” as well as other issues related to impulse control and trauma, according to the hospital’s website.
