On Friday, Montgomery County officials announced 105 new cases of Coronavirus

On Friday afternoon, Montgomery County officials announced that were 105 new cases of Coronavirus in the county, of which 23 were from long-term care facilities. The countywide total is now 6,312 cases.

County Commissioner Dr. Val Arkoosh addressed confusion of what type of tests were being included in the numbers. It was previously believed that the number of positive tests only included those that received the test to determine if a person currently has Coronavirus. However, the CDC recently acknowledged that these results were co-mingled with tests that determined whether someone previously had Coronavirus (the antibody test). Due to this, the county went through its data and six cases were removed.

County officials also announced there have been eight additional deaths confirmed to be due to Coronavirus. The total number of confirmed deaths due to Coronavirus is 566. Thus far, 497 of 566 confirmed deaths (88%) are from long-term care facilities. Also reported were 185 probable deaths, which are those without a lab test confirmation.

The 14-day total of positive tests is 1,391 with a daily average of 99.4 based on the county’s data. The goal set by the governor is to have a 14-day daily average of 30. The county is currently off that pace by 69.4. Please note that Governor Wolf announced after the county press conference that Montgomery County will likely move to the yellow phase of reopening on June 5th.
