Only girl on the Sandy Run Middle School football team feat. by Chestnut Hill Local

Abby Thomas, a 14-year-old Oreland resident who for the last two years has been the only girl on the Sandy Run Middle School football team in the Upper Dublin School District, was recently featured in The Chestnut Hill Local.

Abby was a special teams starter and substitute defensive player this season. Her team went 5-1 on the season and won a league title.

According to the article, the boys on her team wouldn’t speak to her for the first three years of her career.

“This year we became friends, though. It has been all I could ask for … I love the adrenaline rush with football. I got the idea four years ago when I saw a TV show called ‘Bella and the Bulldog’ on Nickelodeon.”

Next year she plans to attend the all-girls Gwynedd Mercy Academy next year, partly because they have a flag football team.
