Record number of Coronavirus cases in Montgomery County in first part of December


After the first two weeks of December, the Montgomery County COVID-19 Dashboard shows that every day but December 1st recorded a higher one-day number of cases than the record of 200 that was set on April 18th during the early days of the pandemic. The average number of daily cases thus far in December is 455.

However, over the past four days, the numbers are coming down from a peak of 629 to a total of 349 today. The number of daily cases is provided by date in the chart below. The total number of cases across the county since the start of the pandemic is now 27,170.

Thus far in December, there have been 55 deaths due to Coronavirus (including 12 recorded on December 14th) in Montgomery County. There were 33 deaths in November, which was up from a total of six in October. The number of deaths countywide since the start of the pandemic is 926.

The 14-day PCR positive rate is 11.37% as of December 9th. This is up from 8.37% as of November 29th. Having this number at 5% or under is considered suppression of the virus.

In regards to hospitalizations, as of December 14th, there are 546 patients in Montgomery County hospitals due to Coronavirus. This number is up from December 6th when there were 449 patients. There are currently 56 patients who require a ventilator.

The number of cases from the most recent 14 days is 2,446 more than the 14-days prior. The most recent seven days is 134 more than the previous seven days.

Locally, here are the current numbers:

  • Ambler is at 307 cases, which is 40 more than since December 4th. There have been 16 deaths
  • Lower Gwynedd is at 362, which is 38 more than since December 4th. There have been 35 deaths
  • Upper Dublin is at 726 cases, which is 85 more than since December 4th. There have been 23 deaths, which is two more than since December 4th
  • Whitpain is at 491cases, which is 77 more than since December 4th. There have been 16 deaths
