Second Possible Landing Spot for Ambler Co-op Announced

In an e-mail delivered to members today, the Ambler Co-op announced a second possible landing spot for their store. As reported before, the first spot the Co-op is considering is the Twisters Building on Butler.

From today’s e-mail:

The Bottom Dollar location is one of two possible sites under consideration.

Since the closure of the Bottom Dollar in January 2015, the building at 217 E Butler Ave has remained empty. The building is leased by Aldi Inc., which acquired 66 Bottom Dollar properties in the Philadelphia area. Aldi chose not to open at the Ambler location but continues as a leaseholder to the two owners of the property. Recently, we have been in elevated negotiations with Aldi to sub-lease the property.

As previously announced, the other site is located at 131 Butler Ave (below Twisters yoga studio). This site is temporarily secured by the Co-op under a contingent lease. We have until September 30 to decide whether to affirm a long-term lease with the option to purchase the building, and we will use the building as an office in the Fall.

Both buildings are able to house all the grocery departments we would like to have, as well as a prepared foods kitchen and seating.

Members are being encouraged to attend tonight’s(?) planning commission meeting at Borough Hall where the Co-op will be presenting their plans for the 217 E. Butler site and to the Borough Council Meeting on September 6th, where the Co-op leadership will be presenting to Borough Council.
