Last week the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court found that Pennsylvania’s Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam did not have the authority to issue a mask mandate for the state’s schools.

The issue now falls to the local school districts.

On December 10th, Upper Dublin School District Superintendent Dr. Steve Yanni issued a statement that addressed the issue. The district will require masking indoors when the transmission of COVID-19 when community transmission levels fall within the substantial and high classifications. Any change would be based on data from the two proceeding weeks.

Locally the Wissahickon School District’s school board voted 9-0 on December 13th to amend its health and safety plan. Wissahickon will follow a plan similar to that of Upper Dublin.
