Centre Square Fire Chief Tremendously Proud of All Firefighters on the Scene at Yesterday’s Blue Bell Fire

Last night Whitpain Police responded to 402 Plymouth Rd. in Blue Bell for a residential fire. Upon arrival a heavy smoke and fire condition was present.  The Centre Square Fire Department were assisted at the scene by the following companies: Wissahickon, North Penn, Upper Gwynedd, Norriton, Ft. Washington, Worcester, Harmonville Fire Departments, along with Second Alarmers Ambulance, Plymouth Ambulance,  Center Square Fire Police and PECO. One firefighter suffered a minor injury at the scene. No residents were injured.  The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Whitpain Township Fire Marshall.

AroundAmbler.com talked with Centre Square Fire Chief, Lee Miller, who explained that the call came in at 3:15 pm from a caretaker of the property, and Chief Miller was first on the scene at 3:19pm.  Upon arrival, there was very heavy smoke coming from the first floor which was quickly rising to the second.  Crews made entry and were met with heavy fire conditions, and had to evacuate due to the dangerous situation and partial floor collapse. The call was then made to go into exterior operations using master streams, and the fire was out under control at 6:21pm.

Chief Miller told us:

…there were approximately 75 firefighters on the scene yesterday,…all the fireman did a tremendous job under the conditions of a large fire, snow, cold temperatures and water freezing. We were fortunate that there weren’t more injuries.  One firefighter injured his shoulder, he was transported to Einstein Hospital, checked out and released.
