Wissahickon School District has announced appointment of new assistant superintendent

The Wissahickon School District announced on March 3rd the appointment of Dr. Sean Gardiner as the district’s new assistant superintendent. The Wissahickon Board of School Directors approved Dr. Gardiner unanimously during its March 3rd meeting.

Dr. Gardiner has served for over a decade in the Upper Merion Area School District as the director of curriculum and instruction for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. Prior to his time at Upper Merion, Dr. Gardiner was the supervisor of mathematics and gifted education in the Norristown Area School District. He started his career in education with eight years of classroom experience as a high school math teacher in Maryland, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Gardiner received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Towson University, and then earned a Master’s degree in Communications from The University of Connecticut and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Widener University.

Dr. Gardiner was selected from a pool of candidates following a months-long search conducted by the district with the assistance of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. He will succeed the incoming superintendent, Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan, who was appointed to replace Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield after he announced his retirement.

“Dr. Gardiner is a perfect fit for this district, as he blends a commitment to academic excellence with a deep understanding of and appreciation for the importance of relationship building,” said Dr. James A. Crisfield, superintendent of schools.

Incoming Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan added, “Dr. Gardiner brings extensive experience in educational leadership and a firm commitment to student success. His expertise and vision make him a valuable addition to our exceptional team of administrators. As I transition into the role of superintendent, I look forward to working alongside him to foster innovation, excellence, and continued growth across our schools.”

School Board President Amy Ginsburg said, “The Board is enthusiastic about welcoming Dr. Gardiner to our team. His impressive background and proven leadership experience, combined with his vision for our district, positioned him as the ideal candidate for the role of assistant superintendent. We are certain that Dr. Dawan and he, together, will deliver outstanding results for our district.”

Dr. Gardiner will begin his role at Wissahickon on June 11th.

If you want to learn more about Dr. Gardiner, he was recently a guest on the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit’s Changed podcast. The conversation explored “the transformative potential of inquiry-based learning.”
