Wissahickon teachers and support staff reject arbitration award

Over 550 members of the Wissahickon Education Alliance voted today to determine whether the union representing the teachers and support staff in the Wissahickon School District would accept a report of the arbitrator. 93% of the membership rejected it.

From the statement:

The Wissahickon Education Alliance entered into this process collaboratively with the Wissahickon School District in hopes that the process would bring us closer together. The Arbitrator has brought us closer together, however, the award does not fairly compensate a teaching and support staff who according to niche.com rank 5th in all of Montgomery County and 19th in the State of Pennsylvania.

The goal of the Wissahickon Education Alliance is to get back to the bargaining table immediately using the award as a framework to negotiate a fair agreement.

More to come.
