Wissahickon “Wall Of Honor” Unveiled This Friday

Friday, October 6th is the Wissahickon High School Induction Ceremony, as well as the unveiling of the new Wall Of Honor, which is located in the lobby of the High School Audion.  The addition of this Wall will inspire students to think about and love their careers, and make a huge difference in the communities where they live.

The newly constructed wall will consist of four sections.  The first being a “Hall Of Fame”, currently with 150 Alumni Bios plus the newest inductee videos, will spotlight the outstanding Academic, Professional, Athletic and Community Service demonstrated by Wissahickon High School Alumni.  The second is, “Trojan Profiles”, which will showcase Wissahickon Staff Alumni and the dozens of graduates that have come back to work in the District, through their bios and memories of Wissahickon and what job they currently hold.  Kristen points out that this is the most popular section with the students because they see their teachers and counselors brought to life.  The third section is, ” Wissahickon World”, and is a career spotlight on outside Alumni.  The goal is to have these graduates talk about their professions and provide advice on video.  This section will specifically be used as an educational tool for college counselors to refer students to those videos.  And, the final section, which is a work-in-progress, and will be unveiled in 2018, is the “Veteran Alumni Memorial”.  It will highlight Wissahickon Vets that have passed away in service to their country. Currently, the Social Studies students are researching and creating these bios and videos, but Wissahickon is also asking the public, if anyone has information or resources to identify these Wissahickon Veterans, please contact Kristen Rawlings @ krawlings@wsdweb.org

We spoke with Kristen Rawlings, the Communications Coordinator for Wissahickon School District about the Wall Of Fame, and she shared:

The Wall Of Honor is an exciting initiative in an effort to connect with Wissahickon Alumni, and provides lots of ways to build this new focus on Alumni Relations like mentoring, internships and shadowing.  The existing ” Hall Of Fame” was falling into disrepair. The old plaques, 60 plus years, were starting to fall apart and not a great tribute or message we wanted students to receive.  We wanted a modern, interactive touch-screen display which will include bios and videos. The 143 previous inductees plaques have been turned into digital format, and organized by class year, and 7 new inductees will be added on October 6th.  Those new inductees will have video bios .  The goal is to bring their post-graduate achievements to life.
