Protest planned prior to November 4th Wissahickon School Board meeting over lack of search process for new superintendent

Over the past several weeks, the Wissahickon School Board has been moving towards promoting the current assistant superintendent, Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan, as the district’s new superintendent following the retirement announcement by Superintendent Dr. Jim Crisfield.

The board decided against conducting a search to consider other candidates for the position and, during recent meetings, expressed to the community that they felt Dr. Dawan was the perfect person to fill the role. The board also had its solicitor explain why the board moving forward with the appointment without a search was legal.

The board intends to vote on appointing Dr. Dawan as superintendent with a five-year contract during the November 4th meeting.

Concerned residents are planning to hold a protest before the meeting. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m., and the protest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the district’s office at 601 Knight Road in Ambler,
