After the 2021 EF-2 tornado damaged Upper Dublin and the surrounding areas, Temple University students, volunteers, and community members joined together to rebuild. Temple University’s Ambler campus will revisit its efforts in its upcoming showcase, “From Disturbance to Discovery: A Living Landscape Five Years Later.” The showcase, presented by Temple Ambler’s Field Station and Temple Ambler Arboretum, will demonstrate how the university and community used tornado recovery to learn and connect with others. The public event will occur at 5 p.m. on September 1 in Bright Hall at 580 Meetinghouse Rd.
The event will include light refreshments, musical performances, remarks from campus staff and a discussion panel. Visitors will have the opportunity to listen to community members’ accounts and share their own experiences.
Current and former students will also present their research on the tornado’s aftermath. Temple Ambler’s campus serves as an outdoor learning laboratory, and tornado damage was integrated into students’ curriculum to study how natural disasters affect ecosystems. Many students based their projects on how forests adapt to disasters over time.
Attendance is free and open to the public. Registration can be found here: From Disturbance to Recovery: A Living Landscape 5 Years Later.
