Leading up to Mischief Night and Halloween, the Ambler Borough Police Department has issued a reminder to parents on the borough’s curfew. The curfew, which was first adopted in 1968 and amended a few times over the years, applies to everyday, not just dates surrounding Halloween.
From the borough’s code:
It shall be unlawful for any minor to be or remain in or upon any public highway, park or other public place within the Borough or in any enclosure or vehicle which is on or in close proximity to any such public place within the Borough, between the hours of 11:00 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights and 12:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and 5:00 a.m. on the following day.
Police advise that there will be extra patrols with this weekend due to the holiday.
What are the penalities for getting caught out after curfew? The first two times a minor is caught, they are brought home and parents/guardians are advised of the ordinance. Things get more serious for the parents/guardians if there is a third incident. The parents/guardians will be “remanded to the Magisterial District Judge for disposition.” If convicted, there could be a fine of not more than $1,000 and a term of imprisionment not to exceed 30 days.”
