Armed thieves rifling through cars in area

NBC10’s Deanna Durante reported this week on armed thieves who are rifling through vehicles in area, which includes reports in Cheltenham, Abington, and Ambler (Upper Dublin Township). In a video from Cheltenham, a resident opens the front door after hearing a noise. From the shadows, one of the thieves points a gun at the resident.

The Upper Dublin Township Police Department has issued a warning to residents about the thefts advising its residents to not confront the thieves:

Multiple thefts from motor vehicles have occurred recently in Upper Dublin Township and surrounding communities. The thefts are mainly taking place during the overnight hours. Video evidence suggests that the suspects were armed with firearms during the thefts.

Please remain vigilant and report suspicious persons by calling 911. Should you observe a theft in progress, DO NOT attempt to intervene. Instead, call 911 immediately.

Taking precautions can help to minimize the chance of becoming a victim of theft from your vehicle. Precautions include locking your vehicle when it is unattended, making sure to not leave valuable items inside your vehicle whether it is locked or not, parking in well-lit areas and installing and maintaining security lighting outside your home.
