Construction set to commence on playground at Mermaid Park in Blue Bell

Construction is poised to begin for the new playground at Mermaid Park in Blue Bell (Whitpain Township). Whitpain Township purchased the property in July 2020 for just over $8 million and has since developed a plan to preserve the land and activate the space with a park, walking trails, and fishing. The property was the longtime home of a swim club and summer camp.

From the township announcement:

This long-awaited project will bring a nature-based playground to the community that goes beyond simply meeting ADA accessibility requirements. The new playground will be comprised of three “pods,” each offering a variety of sensory, physical and educational experiences for users.

The project is partially funded by a PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant. Along with these improvements, additional parking will be added to the area and pathways from the parking area to the pods will be improved.
