As we reported a few weeks ago, Whitpain Township hosted an informational meeting on December 12th to discuss a possible Sober House at a residence located at 813 Stonybrook Drive. The meeting had to be held at Montgomery County Community College in order to accommodate the over 200 interested and concerned residents who attended. Whitpain Township Solicitor Frank Bartle and Special Council, Scott Badami both took turns leading and speaking throughout the meeting. The woman who is requesting the proposed Sober House for 9+ people was not in attendance, however the attorney representing her was.
Because this meeting was strictly informational, no action was taken and no deliberation occurred, but because this case has ignited strong opinions throughout the community, the next several meetings regarding this case will also be held at larger venues to accommodate all who are interested in this outcome. Take a look at the presentation below, as many zoning laws for our area are explained, and some language has been either clarified or a proposal to amended relevant definitions has been submitted. The Board has a limited time to make a decision on this case, and that process is explained below as well.

The Township’s Zoning Hearing Board will hear this case at its meeting on January 17th and prior to this meeting, the zoning application will also be reviewed by the Township’s Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.
