Double the Fun at Wissahickon High School Commencement – 11 Sets of Twins Graduate

It was double the fun at Wissahickon High School’s commencement ceremony on June 7. Diplomas were awarded to 353 students, including 11 sets of twins.

The Class of 2018 enjoyed beautiful weather as they were honored for their many achievements and provided words of advice and encouragement for their future. Congratulatory remarks were provided by Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield, Valedictorian Jason Shu, Graduation Speaker Leanne Shen, Shady Grove Principal Toby Albanese and WHS Principal Dr. Lynne Blair, who encouraged students to:

“Be leaders, invest yourself in bettering the lives of others, and make a difference with your limitless potential. Be transformational through teamwork, determination, and commitment. Try to do something that makes an impact on the children who aren’t even born yet. Be impatient for change. Your impact has the potential to be incredibly significant and when you achieve your ultimate success, please be sure to give back to others, demonstrate empathy and generosity, and help inspire someone else.”

Ninety-five percent of 2018 graduates elected to attend one of 107 colleges/universities, seventy-eight percent plan to attend a four-year college or university, seventeen percent will attend a two-year college/trade/technical school and five students are entering military service. The class had Ivy League college acceptances to Brown, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, Yale and Cornell. Four students are going to Europe for their education next year.
