Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School Opens Their Own Field of Dreams

On Monday afternoon, Gwynedd Mercy High School celebrated the opening of their new synthetic turf field with a home lacrosse game played against Merion Mercy Academy.  The new, state-of-the-art turf field will serve the Field Hockey, Soccer, Lacrosse and Track and Field Teams.   The upper terrace of this athletic complex will be a new natural grass field by June and also able to support all of GMA’s teams.

The planning for the synthetic turf field started three and a half years ago when Gwynedd’s Field Hockey team advanced to district and state levels, and all of their away games were played on synthetic turf surfaces.  It became apparent to Gwynedd’s Athletic Department that it was time to advance their athletic teams and improve their fields, as well.

With the support of the Sisters of Mercy, generous donors, Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School’s Administration, Board of Trustees, members of the Athletic Enhancement Committee and parents, the fundraising efforts forged forward enabling Phase 1 of the project, and the overall athletic vision, to be reached.

AroundAmbler.com spoke with Athletic Director, Terri Fasano who reiterated that, “Phase 1 of this project, specifically the new synthetic turf field, supports the student athletes at GMA but also Phase 2 has the possibility of the upper terrace to have a second turf field.”  Terri pointed out the school’s Mercy Shield that graces the center of the turf field and shared what has become a tagline for the new complex, GMA’s Athletic Department, the student athletes and the entire endeavor… “Mercy Rules the Field.”
