Gwynedd Mercy High School Senior Diver Wins Districts and is Headed to States

Katie Caputo, Gwynedd Mercy High School senior, recently won the PIAA District 1  Diving Championship with a total score of 424.15 points in her 2A division.

Impressively, Katie only began her diving career during her sophomore year, and even then missed most of the diving season because she was recovering from a broken ankle she endured playing soccer that fall.  During her Freshman year she broke her leg in gymnastics.  Her background in gymnastics, and her love of sports, lead her to diving, and her skill and determination since then, have not only landed her a place at States in a few weeks, but also a scholarship to Drexel University next fall.  To top that off, we should also mention that Katie’s scholarship to Drexel is partially academic.

Katie will be competing in the PIAA State Championship for diving from March 14-17th at Bucknell University. AroundAmbler.com had a chance to talk to Katie about her recent success, as well as how she is preparing for the upcoming meet, she says:

I think I have worked very hard over the past year to get to where I have gotten, so I am very excited with the outcome of the meet. Over the next few weeks I will be training to perfect dives as much as I can to accomplish my goal of beating my district score and ultimately placing high at States to help the swim team with points.
