MCCC is one of only three colleges in the Philadelphia region with a PTA program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, an accrediting agency nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

PTAs work under the supervision of physical therapists in a number of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, rehabilitation centers, school systems, sports medicine facilities and private practices. PTAs have different responsibilities than aides and are required to obtain their state licensure.

MCCC’s 70-credit, rigorous associate degree PTA program prepares students to take the Physical Therapist Assistant National Physical Therapy Examination to obtain their state certification/licensure. The program includes supervised hands-on experience in a variety of clinical settings.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for PTAs is strong, with a projected growth of 26 percent from 2018 to 2028, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. The demand for physical therapy in general is anticipated to increase in response to the healthcare needs of the country’s growing older population.
