Montgomery County District Attorney announces an investigation following an officer-involved shooting in Ambler

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele announced on April 27th an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that took place in Ambler on Saturday, April 26th.

According to the announcement, officers from the Ambler Borough Police Department were called to Forrest Avenue and School Street at 7:34 p.m. following a 911 call about a suspicious person. Once on the scene, police found 43-year-old Robert Aguilar Cholula of Ambler holding a large butcher-style knife.

Cholula did not respond to commands to drop the knife and ran towards the officers. Cholula ran toward the officers, and there was an unsuccessful effort to tase him. One of the officers fired a single shot, striking Cholula. He was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital, where he later died. No officers were reported to be injured.

Following an officer-involved shooting, the protocol is for Montgomery County Detectives to respond to the scene and conduct an investigation.
