The Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services Office of Public Health has announced it will spray for mosquitoes in a portion of Whitpain Township on Wednesday, May 21st (with a weather backup date on August 22nd). The action follows a consultation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Whitpain Township officials. The spraying, or adulticiding, was determined to be needed to control the adult mosquito population in areas where sampling by the county and state officials showed mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus.

The spraying will take places in all areas within the highlighted sections of the above map. Border roads include North Wales Road, West Township Line Road, Yost Road, and Lafayette Way. Residents within the spray area are advised to remain indoors, closing windows, and turning off ventilation systems that draw in outside air for the duration of the spray plus 30 minutes after.
According to the notice, workers will be using Duet® Duel-Action Adulticide at a rate of 0.75 fluid ounces per acre applied with an ATV mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV) sprayer. The spray will be performed by county personnel.
