Norristown man charged in death of Ambler woman

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Norristown Police Chief Jacqueline Bailey-Davis announced on April 25th the arrest of Adan Ortiz-Gonzalez, 18, of East Marshall Street in Norristown, for Homicide by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Endangerment and other charges. The charges stem from a February 26th crash that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Katty Campos of Ambler.

The investigation conducted by the Norristown Police Department and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau found that a vehicle driven by Ortiz-Gonzalez was going 60 miles per hour, in an area that had a posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour, when it struck Campos’ vehicle at the intersection of Dekalb Street and East Brown Street in Norristown. An analysis of the crash by detectives determined that the Campos’ vehicle would have safely cleared the intersection if Ortiz-Gonzalez been driving the speed limit.

Ortiz-Gonzalez turned himself in on April 23 and was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Marc Alfarano, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured, with a condition of no driving by the defendant. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 3rd at 10:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Todd N. Barnes.
