Opportunity to win seat on Ambler’s borough council via write in campaign

On August 22nd, Democrat Glynnis Siskind (Ward 2), the president of Ambler’s borough council, announced via Facebook that while she had appeared on the ballot for the primary election in May and advanced to the general election, she had recently withdrawn from the general election. According to Montgomery County records, she withdrew her name on July 30th.

In her August 22nd statement, Siskind stated that she had determined not to run for re-election last winter. Essentially, she appeared on the ballot for the primary so that the Democratic Party could name a replacement once she withdrew. In the same statement, she mentioned that a replacement had been found, but apparently that person had changed their mind.

AroundAmbler.com verified with Montgomery County that the list of withdrawals and replacements was updated. A spokesperson for the county shared, “No replacement candidate ever filed paperwork for that office. All opportunities for a candidate to have their name listed on the ballot have passed as we have a finalized ballot at this point. The only option for a candidate to participate in this, or any race, at this point is to run a write-in campaign.”

Voters in Ward 2 will have the opportunity to cast two votes for borough council. The only candidate appearing on the ballot for Ward 2 will be Redmond Brubaker (D), who was appointed to replace Lisa Auerbach and is now running for a full term. The Republicans do not have a candidate on the ballot. There are two positions where you can write in names.

Wondering what it takes to win a write-in campaign in Ward 2? In 2021, Siskind and Auerbach received 399 and 380 votes, respectively, in the general election. So based on recent history, 400 votes will get you a seat on the borough council.

The general election will be held on November 4th.
