Orrin Evans’ Club Patio Jazz Day set for Aug. 31 in Fort Washington

Club Patio Jazz Day will take place on Sunday, August 31 from 12:00pm to 6:15pm at the Whitemarsh Valley Event Center, 493 S. Bethlehem Pike in Fort Washington.

Club Patio Day is a yearly tradition hosted by Orrin Evans’ Imani Records All Stars and three-time Grammy-nominated The Captain Black Big Band.

According to theheartofjazz.org, the band is “a quintet of the finest current university student jazz musicians who have roots in the greater Philadelphia area” and made up of two Julliard students (Aidan McKeon and Ace Yuji Williams) and three Temple students (Mehki Boone, Ry Miller and Justin Griggs).

According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the festival will span two stages.

From their coverage:

The day also includes a duo set by saxophonist Caleb Wheeler Curtis and drummer Vinnie Sperrazza — two-thirds of the adventurous trio Ember — and an All-Star Band including Curtis, keyboardist Luke Carlos O’Reilly, trumpeter Thomas Marriott, bassist Jonathan Michel, and drummer Byron Landham.

The schedule is interspersed with sets by youth ensembles hosted by local nonprofit the Heart of Jazz, which provides jazz education and mentorship opportunities to underserved students.
