Parents and students protest Wissahickon’s reopening plan. More protests planned

Parents and students held a protest on Sunday due to issues they have with the Wissahickon School District reopening plan. A couple of the concerns involved students not being offered the same classes in the virtual and hybrid models and the district not having enough cleaning supplies. Watch the interviews below from 6ABC Action News:

A second protest is planned for Tuesday, August 11th at 5:00 p.m. along Dager Road (in front of the schools). The demands of the protest are as follows:

  • We want to open schools safely and equitably!
  • Safe school opening for all students K-12, teachers, support staff and community
  • Necessary building sanitation and PPE for students and staff
  • Reduced class size in elementary in-person model
  • Virtual model 7-12 needs to be taught by Wissahickon teachers that we love (Not virtual Academy)
  • Synchronous learning for both virtual and hybrid
