The Pennsylvania State Police have organized Operation Nighthawk, a traffic safety initiative which focuses on getting impaired drivers off the roadway, in our area this weekend.
Operation Nighthawk teams municipal and regional police agencies with state police troopers for roving DUI enforcement patrols. Their focus is on impaired driving. The entire operation includes classroom instruction, motivational speakers, and current legislative updates. All of this is followed by roving DUI patrols throughout the entire Commonwealth.
Operation Nighthawk led to nearly 500 arrests across the state in August 2022.
The Eastern Montgomery County Impaired Driving Task Force will be participating in Operation Nighthawk this year. The Operation is scheduled to take place during the weekend of September 9. The Eastern Montgomery County Impaired Driving Task Force is comprised of the following Municipalities:
- Abington Township
- Ambler Borough
- Cheltenham Township
- Hatboro Borough
- Jenkintown Borough
- Lower Moreland Township
- Springfield Township
- Upper Dublin Township
- Upper Moreland Township
- Whitemarsh Township
“Over the past 20 years, Operation Nighthawk has been extremely successful at getting impaired drivers off the roads,” Col. Robert Evanchick, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, said in a statement last year. “We are grateful to our municipal and regional police partners who share our zero-tolerance approach to this serious crime.”
