As of March 12th, a contractor for Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority began installing a sanitary sewer force main by jack and bore underneath the SEPTA train tracks toward the Ambler Borough Wastewater Treatment Plant.
If you aren’t familiar, jack and bore, or horizontal auger boring, is a trenchless construction method used to install underground utilities such as pipes and casings, beneath infrastructure like railroads and roads without disturbing the surface. The process involves utilizing a hydraulic jack to push steel pipes/casings forward while a rotating auger inside removes soil.
During the work, Church and Main streets will remain open, but expect periodic delays. It is expected the work will take two weeks. The work being done will result in loud noises and possible vibrations. There will be a period of work that continues over 24 hours from March 21st at 12:00 a.m. to March 22nd at 12:00 a.m. due to the construction process involved.
