The Montgomery County Office of Public Health has scheduled adult mosquito control from 8:00pm – 11:00pm on Tuesday, August 26 in an area bounded by North Wales Road, Yost Road, Lafayette Way and W. Township Line Road in Whitpain Township.
All spraying will be performed by county personnel using a truck mounted ULV sprayer. Individuals listed in the Pesticide Hypersensitivity Registry and Registered Apiaries within 500 feet of the spray area will be notified by MCOPH, officials said.
In related news, a grand opening of refurbished tennis courts on the Montgomery County Community College’s campus in Blue Bell was held on Thursday, August 21.
A partnership allows Whitpain Township’s tennis programs priority use of four of the eight courts while giving students, employees, and the community full access to upgraded tennis facilities, including pickleball courts, officials said.
The total cost of the project was approximately $147,000 and was fully funded by the Township. Relocating tennis operations to the campus allowed the Township to begin construction on dedicated pickleball courts on the site of the old tennis courts at Wentz Run Park. The new pickle ball courts are expected to open in mid-September.
In other news, Whitpain Public Works crews are nearing completion of the new inclusive playground at Mermaid Park.
The park is comprised of three nature-based “pods,” each offering a variety of sensory, physical and educational experiences for users. So far, crews have installed pod one, which is the largest of the three pods. Work has begun on pod three while pod two remains in its early stages. Along with these improvements, additional parking will be added.
The project is partially funded by a PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant.
