During the July 28th meeting of Ambler’s planning commission, there will be a presentation by SEPTA on its planned redevelopment of a portion of its parking lot adjacent to the train station. In February 2026, SEPTA awarded a contract to Korman Communities and Benchmark Real Estate for the long-term ground lease of the parking lot.
SEPTA has been working to generate more ridership and revenue by partnering with developers to construct apartments on property it owns next to public transportation hubs. Under the agreement with the chosen developer in Ambler, the developer will pay SEPTA $402,500 per year, with annual increases of 3%. The total contract value is estimated to be $236 million over a term of 99 years.
The proposal will bring 170 apartments and ground-floor retail to a 3.4-acre portion of the approximately 5-acre SEPTA parking lot. The lot currently has approximately 600 spaces, and the redevelopment would leave 201 spaces for commuters.
The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the borough hall.
