On Friday, August 5th, a fundraiser/gathering of mourners was held at the Daniel W. Dowling American Legion Post No. 769 to memorialize Kevin Milton Smith, 44, one of the victims of last week’s double homicide in Ambler. In the early morning hours of August 1st, authorities found both Smith, and Janice Trunk, 54, shot to death in a second-floor apartment in the 100 block of Forest Avenue, after responding to a shots-fired call at the Forest Garden Apartments. As of now, there have been no arrests and investigators have offered no new information.
From The Ambler Gazette:
The event was also a fundraiser to help pay for Smith’s funeral expenses.
“He [Smith] was so funny, so outgoing,” said Smith’s stepsister, Janice Burley, who sat next to Smith’s childhood friend, Mark Futch, and smiled as she reminisced about Smith’s love for football and his allegiance to the Washington Redskins — no easy thing in Philadelphia Eagles country, they laughed. Smith worked as a golf caddy at area country clubs, they said.
Funeral services for Smith are being held at Zion Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9. For Trunk, Funeral services are being held at Bethlehem Baptist Church at 8 p.m. on Aug. 9.
Donations to the Smith for funeral expenses can be made at the Lenwood Jones Funeral Home in Philadelphia.
