This Week at the Farm Stand at Ambler Yards

This Thursday, from 3 pm to 7 pm, the Farm Stand at Ambler Yards comes to town with locally sourced meats and produce from Lancaster County. Every week, we will let you know what to expect in the coming Thursday’s offerings and share information and recipes you can use at home to delight friends and family with fresh farm food!

This week, Asparagus is once again on the top of the produce list. Besides being a mildly flavored, earthy tasting vegetable, Asparagus is a good source of folate, vitamin K and fiber. You can devour a whole cup of and it’s only 30 calories. Maybe have two cups of it then.

As an ideal absorber of flavor, it can be steamed and drizzled with olive oil and garlic as a side dish or as an ingredient in your main dish. You can also boil it, sauté’ it, use it in stir-fries, pastas and even roast it. It’s a very versatile vegetable!

Spring Onions (scallions) are making their first appearance this season at the Farm Stand. Actually just young onions, their flavor is milder than a conventional onion. This mild flavor makes the Spring Onion another versatile produce selection that’s very edible – raw and cooked! Try some on a green salad or in eggs…and one whole Spring Onion has 5 calories so, eat a few.

The special this week at the Farm Stand is $1.00 off all breakfast meat. That includes Scrapple, Breakfast Sausage and BACON. Other items slated are all-natural whole milk, 2% milk, skim milk, homemade butter and free-range eggs, raw and strained Honey, 100% Pure PA Maple Syrup that was just bottled, fresh caught Rainbow Trout Fillets, caught this week!!! Also, Fuji apples, potatoes, sweet potatoes, baby spinach, red beets, kale, onions, spring mix and mushrooms. Don’t forget, browse the large selection of home canned fruits, veggies and jams. Lastly, Homemade Cheese, Aged Cheddar Cheese in several different flavors!
