Three Maple Glen scouts earn Eagle honors

Guy B. Frick IV, Grayson Hart King, and Peter Liu from Troop 542 in Maple Glen have earned Eagle Scout honors, the highest award attainable to youth members of the Boy Scouts of America. They were recognized by the National Court of Honor on January 10 at Supplee Presbyterian Church.

Each scout received a citation from State Senator Art Haywood.

About the recipients:

Guy Frick began his Scouting career with Cub Scout Pack 405 and crossed over as an Arrow of Light to Troop 542 in 2016. His first leadership position was den chief, working his way up to assistant senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster. He was voted into membership in the Order of the Arrow by his Troop and completed his ordeal in July 2018. In addition to attending summer camp at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in East Stroudsburg, PA, Frick enjoyed sailing and diving in the Florida Keys on two trips to Florida National High Adventure Sea Base.

For his Eagle project, Frick led a team of 21 volunteers to plant 95 native trees at the Rose Valley Preserve in Maple Glen, PA, which was severely affected by a tornado that hit Upper Dublin Township in September 2021. His project brings back protection to the park and provides homes for native wildlife.

Frick is currently in his senior year at Upper Dublin High School, where he photographs many sporting events. In the future, he plans to study supply chain management.

Grayson King began his Scouting journey at Cub Scout Pack 38 and crossed over to Troop 116 in 2016, where he held leadership positions of patrol leader and troop guide. He spent the next three years in Scouting enjoying time at Resica Falls and Ockanickon Scout Reservations and exploring new cities on weekend trips. During the COVID-19 pandemic, King transferred to Troop 542, where he held the leadership position of quartermaster.

For his Eagle project, King led an after-school program for students attending Philadelphia’s Gesu School. The program offered seven sessions that included homework help, athletic activities, team building and STEAM projects. Each session partnered one student from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia with one or two Gesu students.

King will graduate in June from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, where he has served as a varsity soccer team manager, environmental club president, vice president of the Black and Latino Culture Club, and a member on the Mission and Ministry Leadership Board.

Peter Liu embarked on his first Scouting adventures when he joined Troop 542 in 2016. After completing the first-year program, he held leadership positions including assistant instructor, troop guide, and lead instructor.

Liu loves the outdoors and engaging in Troop activities that can only be done in nature. These activities include summer camp at Resica Falls, where he earned his small boat sailing merit badge, as well as a rock-climbing camping trip and an Iditarod sled race.

Liu’s Eagle project was the planting and fencing of 107 sapling trees as well as the removal of invasive plants around the stream at Aidenn Lair Park in Dresher, PA. The trees will support the community’s storm drainage system by absorbing rainwater and preventing soil erosion as well as providing a habitat for animals.

Liu graduated from Upper Dublin High School in June 2022, where he led the math and computer club, participated in business clubs, and was a member of the tennis team. He currently studies electrical and computer engineering at Duke University and is a member of Duke Robotics.

Scouts BSA Troop 542 is based at Supplee Presbyterian Church in Maple Glen, PA. Since its start in 1969, 197 Scouts from Troop 542 have earned the rank of Eagle.
