Update on plan for park at BoRit Asbestos Superfund Site in West Ambler

During the April 5th meeting on Whitpain Township’s Board of Supervisors, there was a presentation from township consultant Peter Simone of Simone Collins Landscape Architecture that provided an update on the plans and timeline for Wissahickon Park.

The park would be constructed on the BoRit Asbestos Superfund Site located in the West Ambler neighborhood of the township. This is close to downtown Ambler Borough (located behind the currently vacant property that previously was home to a McDonald’s). The area is shared in light red in the above image.

Township consultant Peter Simone, from Simone Collins Landscape Architecture, recently offered an update on the plans and timeline for Wissahickon Park. The presentation included a history of the plan over the years and the current plan, which includes playgrounds, playing courts, a splash pad, bocce courts, pavilion/restroom facilities, and other amenities.

The township anticipates starting construction in 2023. The construction budget is $2.9 million and thus far grants cover over $2 million of the cost.
