Update – Wissahickon School District moving to fire Lower Gwynedd Elementary principal following antisemitic remarks. Second staff member on administrative leave pending investigation

As AroundAmbler.com reported earlier, the Wissahickon School District is moving to terminate Lower Gwynedd Elementary School Principal Philip Leddy for antisemitic remarks he made on the morning of December 19th.

The remarks came after Leddy thought he had hung up, leaving a voicemail for a parent. After leaving a professional-sounding message, Leddy then began a conversation with another school employee and referred to a local summer camp as a “Jew camp” and also used the phrase “Jew money” while speaking very negatively about the parent. Leddy works at the camp during summer break and is familiar with the parent in question because the parent’s children attend the camp. AroundAmbler.com was allowed to hear the message in its entirety to confirm what was stated.

During an afternoon press conference, Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan announced that the district was going through the legal process to terminate Leddy. Leddy is currently on administrative leave, and a hearing is scheduled for December 22nd. The unnamed female staff member who was part of the conversation was also placed on administrative leave, and that investigation continues. Dr. Dawan stressed during the press confernece that while the staff member did not herself make antisemetic statements, she did not push back and continued the conversation.

Attending the press conference were a host of local faith leaders, including six Rabbis. Dr. Dawan, who assumed the role of superintendent in June 2025, had been working with the group to build greater understanding within the district.

You can read Dr. Dawan’s full comments (which she also shared in a letter to the district’s families) here.

Wissahickon School Board President Amy Ginsburg also spoke during the press conference.
