Upper Dublin standout named High School On SI’s Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year

Fort Washington native Kyla Garrison, a recent graduate of Upper Dublin High School, has been voted High School On SI’s Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year, Sports Illustrated announced today.

Garrison earned 37.34 percent of the fan vote.

From the announcement:

Garrison capped a record-breaking senior season by earning multiple postseason honors. She finished with honors such as First-Team Pitcher and Suburban One Liberty Division Player of the Year.

In the circle, Garrison went 19-8 with a 1.96 ERA, 315 strikeouts, and 59 walks in 185 2/3 innings pitched. At the plate, she batted .494 with 24 RBIs and 10 doubles.

She leaves Upper Dublin as the program’s career leader in strikeouts (911) and single-season strikeouts (315), while also surpassing 100 career hits.

In 2024, she pitched a no-hitter during a 5-0 victory over Abington Senior High School.

“I don’t even know why I wanted to be a pitcher in the first place. It just sounded fun,” Garrison told Prep Softball in April. “You are always touching the ball and have more control of the game than in other positions, and I guess I really like that aspect of it.”

Garrison has committed to play for Howard University under head coach Tori Tyson.
