PennDOT announced on May 11th that it has granted $74 million in 72 projects in 38 counties to “improve community resources and public accessibility around the Commonwealth.” The projects are funded as part of the 2025 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) of the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Surface Block Grant Program.
The funded projects include construction of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improved access to public transportation, creation of safe routes to schools, creation of trail projects that serve a transportation purpose, or enhancement of safety for vulnerable travelers.
Upper Dublin Township was among the recipients. The township received $1,139,179 for the installation of missing sidewalk connections on Farm Lane to access Upper Dublin High School and missing sidewalk along Limekiln Pike to access the Maple Glen Elementary School. This project will also install an overhead Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon within the Limekiln Pike School Zone for the pedestrian access to Maple Glen Elementary School.
“Whether it’s a walk to school or a ride to the office, how you get there is the most critical part of any trip,” said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll. “Thanks to this investment, communities around the Commonwealth are creating and improving options for pedestrians, cyclists and transit users.”
