Upper Gwynedd considers site for new fire station, study says west corner of Allentown Road and Sumneytown Pike is best

The Upper Gwynedd board of commissioners was recently presented with a study detailing possible sites for a new fire station.

The study took a close look at four locations, including the current site on the 600 block of Garfield Avenue. Other sites included the 1600 block of West Point Pike, and two adjacent sites at the intersection of Allentown Road and Sumneytown Pike.

The West Point Pike location was eliminated, and the west corner of Allentown Road and Sumneytown Pike, an 11.8 acre lot, was considered best for its location and size.

The study also looked at the features of the existing station, which totals 11,669 square feet and costs $335,000 a year to operate, compared to what would be needed in a modernized station.
